About Us
We’re on a mission to create a brighter future, where you can be a change maker at the actual source. We’re one of Australia’s largest water utilities with over 30% of Victoria’s population relying on us for their essential water and sanitation services.

Our award-winning culture fosters an inclusive, collaborative, and flexible environment that enables our people to thrive. Here, you’ll be inspired and challenged to grow alongside us.

We're committed to reconciliation and supporting the self-determined role for Traditional Owners/Custodians in water and land management.

The Role
At Yarra Valley Water, we’re responsible for delivering safe water and sanitation services to over 2 million people every day. That responsibility relies on trusted, well-governed asset data and this role sits right at the centre of making that happen.

As our Asset Data & Information Governance Lead, you’ll play a pivotal role in lifting the quality, consistency and value of our asset data. This is a senior, highly autonomous role where you’ll set direction, influence outcomes, and act as a vital link between business stakeholders and technical teams to ensure asset information supports better decisions across the asset lifecycle.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Set the direction for asset data and information governance across the organisation, establishing clear standards, frameworks and assurance practices that ensure asset information is trusted, consistent and fit for decision-making.
  • Lead the uplift of asset data quality and interoperability, identifying and prioritising initiatives that improve how asset data is captured, integrated and used. You’ll work closely with analytics and digital asset transformation teams to embed governance into automated data pipelines.
  • Own and evolve asset information standards, including classification hierarchies, naming conventions and core asset data structures, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives, regulatory requirements and industry best practice (such as ISO 55000).
  • Act as a bridge between business and technology, partnering with asset, operations and corporate teams to understand business needs and translate them into clear, actionable data and information governance initiatives.
  • Build organisational capability in the use of asset data, supporting reporting officers and business users through clear documentation, metadata and guidance that enables sustainable, self-service reporting and data-informed decision-making.
  • Champion a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, proactively identifying governance gaps, risks and opportunities, and driving practical improvements with stakeholders across the business.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in data governance, data management, and/or information management, including improving frameworks, data quality standards, controls, and compliance processes.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly and succinctly to diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to lead initiatives independently, identify data or governance issues, and drive cross-functional improvements.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to negotiate and build strong relationships.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and outcome-focus, balancing governance requirements with practical business needs.
  • Working knowledge of Azure-based data platforms (e.g. Azure SQL DB, Data Factory)

You’ll Be a Great Candidate If You Also Have:

  • Knowledge of asset management principles and standards (e.g., ISO 55000) and asset lifecycle planning frameworks.
  • Experience developing and maintaining asset classification hierarchies.
