AI & Data Privacy Risk Lead

Parramatta (Hybrid – 1 day per week in Sydney CBD)

We’re seeking an accomplished and forward-thinking risk leader to design and drive our enterprise-wide strategy for AI, Machine Learning, and Data Privacy Risk Management — ensuring innovation remains ethical, secure, and compliant across multiple jurisdictions.

About the Role

As the AI & Data Privacy Risk Lead, you will lead the second line of defence (L2) in establishing frameworks and controls that define what safe and responsible AI looks like.
Working across Technology, Legal, Risk, Data Science, and Business units, you’ll build the governance structures and oversight that ensure AI and data use are aligned with regulatory expectations, privacy standards, and organisational values.

This is an enterprise-wide leadership role with exposure across Australia, the UK, EU, India, and Hong Kong, requiring a deep understanding of global regulatory frameworks and cross-border data requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement an enterprise-wide AI and Data Privacy Risk Framework aligned to global standards (e.g. GDPR, DORA, APRA CPS 234/230).
• Lead the design and adoption of AI governance policies, including algorithmic accountability, bias mitigation, and responsible model usage.
• Provide L2 oversight of AI risk and information security assessments, ensuring effective controls across the AI lifecycle (design, training, deployment, monitoring).
• Oversee data lineage, governance, and quality frameworks ensuring responsible data use in AI systems.
• Manage privacy by design and ensure compliance with PII and cross-border data transfer requirements.
• Lead Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and guide responses to regulatory inquiries or incidents.
• Partner with business and technology teams to strengthen AI controls and ensure the ethical use of generative AI, chatbots, and automation technologies.
• Support uplift in AI risk literacy and promote a culture of transparency, ethics, and accountability.
• Lead and develop a team of 3–4 experienced professionals

About You

You’re a seasoned risk leader who combines strategic oversight with hands-on capability. You understand the technical, regulatory, and ethical dimensions of AI and data — and are passionate about enabling innovation safely.

You’ll bring:

• 12+ years’ experience in Technology or Security Risk Management, ideally in financial services.
• Proven experience leading AI and Data Risk frameworks across multiple jurisdictions (UK, EU, India, Australia, HK).
• Deep understanding of AI governance, algorithmic risk, bias, and responsible AI model development.
• Knowledge of cross-border data privacy and global regulatory frameworks (GDPR, DORA, APRA, FCA, PRA, HKMA).
• Qualifications in IT, Computer Science, or Information Security (postgraduate desirable).
• Certifications such as CRISC, CISM, CISA, CISSP, ISO 27001/42001 Lead Auditor are advantageous.
• Exceptional stakeholder engagement, leadership, and influencing skills — able to operate both strategically and tactically.
